WETLAND relates Bill Fontana’s “Landscape Soundings” to current climate protests in Vienna – around the now cancelled construction of the Lobautunnel and the planned city road. Excerpts from Fontana’s work were heavily transformed by the artists using machines and effects devices, combined with voices from the Ö1 programme Hörbilder “Kampf um den Lobautunnel” and chants from the global climate movement.
The resulting audio play portrays a contested landscape whose ecosystems are once again under threat from current construction plans and the effects of the climate crisis. Wetland is also a portrait of a generation marked by fears and worries about the future, and driven by the urgency to change things together. Hainburg ist überall.

As part of the Ö1 focus on “Im Fluss – Donau”, Kunstradio presents the legendary project “Landscape Soundings” by Bill Fontana. For fourteen days in 1990, live sounds and tones resounded from the Stopfenreuter Au near Hainburg. The soundscape of the Danube floodplain was transmitted to 70 loudspeakers with the help of 16 microphones and directional radio. These were mounted on the façades and in the domes of the Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History and made the undisturbed nature of the Stophenreuter Au at Maria-Theresien Platz in Vienna resound in an unusual new way.
WETLAND is the second collaboration by Adina Camhy and Katrin Euller after the radio piece Droneland (Ö1 Kunstradio 2022).

WETLAND setzt Bill Fontanas „Landscape Soundings“ in Bezug zu gegenwärtigen Klimaprotesten in Wien – rund um den mittlerweile abgesagten Bau des Lobautunnels und die geplante Stadtstraße. Ausschnitte aus Fontanas Werk wurden von den Künstlerinnen mittels Maschinen und Effektgeräten stark verändert, mit Stimmen aus der Ö1 Sendung Hörbilder „Kampf um den Lobautunnel“ und Sprechchören der globalen Klimabewegung kombiniert.
Das daraus entstandene Stück porträtiert eine umkämpfte Landschaft, deren Ökosysteme durch aktuelle Baupläne sowie durch die Auswirkungen der Klimakrise einmal mehr in Gefahr geraten. Wetland ist auch ein Portrait einer Generation, die geprägt ist von Zukunftsängsten und -sorgen, und angetrieben wird von der Dringlichkeit, gemeinsam etwas zu verändern. Hainburg ist überall.

Im Rahmen des Ö1 Schwerpunktes „Im Fluss – Donau“ präsentiert das Kunstradio das legendäre Projekt „Landscape Soundings“ von Bill Fontana. 1990 erklangen für vierzehn Tage live Sounds und Klänge aus der Stopfenreuter Au bei Hainburg. Die Klangwelt der Donau-Auen wurde mit Hilfe von 16 Mikrophonen und Richtfunk auf 70 Lautsprecher übertragen. Diese waren an den Fassaden und in den Kuppeln des Kunst- und des Naturhistorischen Museums montiert und ließen die ungestörte Natur der Stophenreuter Au am Maria-Theresien Platz in Wien in ungewohnter Weise neu erklingen.
Wetland ist nach dem Radiostück Droneland (Ö1 Kunstradio 2022) die zweite Kollaboration von Adina Camhy und Katrin Euller.
